Moral Outrage?
1945 saw the world deep in the madness of war. A film, based upon a classic novel from the 1890s, burst on to the scene. The novel caused such a moral outrage that its author ended up in prison. Its look at homosexuality, morality, corruption and decadence both repulsed and excited the audience of the day. Although this novel would be brought to the screen almost ten additional times, this version is still the best. It features great acting, fantastic & Oscar winning cinematography, spot-on directing and is the adaptation that best mirrors the novel. This classic of cinema is a taut psychological thriller that you might have missed!
