I have received dozens of requests for my picks for tonight’s Oscars. So here we go:
Picture: Oppenheimer
I think ‘Godzilla Minus One’ was the best film made last year, but it wasn’t nominated. A Nolan Epic finally wins out.
Director: Christopher Nolan for Oppenheimer
Partially for his work on the film and part lifetime achievement award.
Actress: Lily Gladstone for Killers of the Flower Moon
Not only was she fantastic, but the Academy can recognize a Native American performer.
Actor: Cillian Murphy for Oppenheimer
Solid work on the film of the year.
Supporting Actress: Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers
Lock of the ceremony.
Supporting Actor: Robert Downey, Jr. for Oppenheimer
This is a tough one. So many great performances. Again, partially a lifetime achievement award.
Original Screenplay: Justine Triet and Arthur Harari for Anatomy of a Fall
Original screenplay that is complex and amazing.
Adapted Screenplay: Cord Jefferson for American Fiction
My personal favorite of all the Best Picture nominees. Jefferson’s work adapting the Percival Everett novel ‘Erasure’ was delicious.
International Feature: The Zone of Interest
This Best Picture nominee from the UK gets some love from the academy.
Animated Feature: The Boy and The Heron
Miyazaki wins his third Oscar for, what appears to be, his final film. Personally, I liked the Spiderverse film better, but Miyazaki deserves all the accolades possible.
In total it is going to be a big night for ‘Oppenheimer’. Probably 8 total Oscars with ‘Barbie’ (the other half of ‘Barbinheimer” picking up 3.
Enjoy the ceremony and feel free to let me know what you think!
We'll see!
